Has Anything Changed Since You Submitted Your FAFSA?

Although the FAFSA isn’t the final step in your journey to college, it certainly is an important one. Over the next several months, you may become aware of changes that should be made on your FAFSA, but where do you start? Most students file their FAFSA electronically, and making online changes is quick and easy. Any time you make changes to your FAFSA, you can expect an email a few days afterward instructing you to view/print your new Student Aid Report (SAR). Review your SAR carefully to make sure your changes were made correctly. We’ve listed the three most common FAFSA changes below:

To update your demographic information:

  • Log in to StudentAid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa, using your FSA ID.
  • ‘Continue,’ then enter your Save Key.
  • Select Student Demographics.
  • Select ‘Enter Information’ at the bottom.
  • Make your changes and submit them.

To add a college:

  • Log in to StudentAid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa, using your FSA ID.
  • ‘Continue,’ then enter your Save Key.
  • Click School Selection.
  • On the Selected Colleges and Housing Info page, select ‘+ Add More Schools’.
  • Search for your school by state (required) and city or school name.
  • Add the new college(s) and submit your changes.

To make corrections:

  • Log in to StudentAid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa, using your FSA ID.
  • ‘Continue,’ then enter your Save Key.
  • You’ll see the FAFSA sections listed across the top; choose the FAFSA section that contains the data that needs to be changed, and then be sure to submit your changes when you’re done.

Note: If any of the income figures you reported need to be changed, a financial aid officer at your college will need to make them for you. If this is the case, be sure to give them your Data Release Number (DRN), located near the top of your Student Aid Report (SAR). For your protection, they cannot ask you for your FSA ID.
