The 2024-25 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) will be available to students sometime this December. We know you’re already aware of that. The U.S. Department of Education has yet to announce the exact date when the FAFSA will become available in December, but we will share the news when we can.
Here’s something you may not already know. Beginning with the new Better FAFSA®, everyone who contributes their information to a student’s FAFSA will be required to give consent to have their 2022 tax information transferred from the IRS to the FAFSA. Everyone will have to agree to this transfer, even if they didn’t file a tax return in 2022.
If you’re a dependent student, one or both of your parents will have to give consent for the transfer. In order for them to give their consent on your FAFSA, they’ll need to create a Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID), preferably before the end of November. To help you determine if one or both parents need to create an FSA ID, please see the Who Needs A Federal Student Aid ID? flowchart at UCanGo2.org.
